Magnums, moe-iced cakes and frothy, moustache making milkshakes will be the order of the day at Pertrain’s moustache-inspired moe-ning tea, to raise money for Movember.
Pertrain has been a proud supporter of Movember for a number of years and this year we are aiming to raise at least $1000 to support prostate cancer and men’s mental heath initiatives.
Each year in Australia, close to 3,300 men die of prostate cancer. Around 20,000 new cases are diagnosed in Australia every year. That means that one in nine men in Australia will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Pertrain’s head ‘Mo brother’, Michael Johns, said prostate cancer and mental health were two of the biggest threats to men in Australia. “We will all be touched by them or know someone who is, at some stage in our lives.”
“Activities like Movember not only raise money for men’s health research and treatment, but also raise awareness,” he said.
“Today mental health issues are acknowledged and accepted so much more than 10 years ago. People don’t have to feel ashamed or try to hide their depression, there is no longer the same stigma attached. The same goes for prostate cancer. More men die of prostate cancer in Australia than woman with breast cancer, and as with all cancers early detection is the best chance for successful treatment.”
Michael challenged other businesses to get involved in Movember.
“Even though we are at the end of November, it’s not too late. If every business in Australia, big and small, raised just $100 during Movember we would be handing over $21 million dollars for men’s health initiatives. That would go a long way.”
